The City offers remarkable possibilities with long beaches perfectly equipped, the calm and clear sea and numerous sports facilities. At the same time the Majella with its 2145mt is a destination for both hiking enthusiasts and ski lovers.
The city initiatives cover the whole year, from the Carnival of Abruzzo that has reached the 63rd edition, until the Francavillese Summer, excellent opportunity to discover the many events but also its traditions. During the summer there are many events including the Sport Fitness Festival at the end of June, the Dinner with the Artists, the Summer Concerts of the "BlueBar" and the famous Fireworks on the sea on the occasion of the patronal feast in August.
Near the Old Town you can visit interesting historical places: the Michetti Convento of the '400 - bought in 1885 by Francesco Paolo Michetti, who made it his residence transforming it into a cenacle of artists, including Gabriele D'Annunzio who here wrote "Il Piacere" -, the Michetti Museum "Mu.Mi", where since 1947 it has been renewed every summer the Contemporary Art competition; the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, rebuilt in 1957 to a design by the architect Ludovico Quaroni.
